Our story.
Welcome to Roses Brook Blooms and to our Family Farm of over 40 years! My name is Racheal and since 2020, alongside my partner Willem, we’ve been getting our hands dirty and discovering our passion for flowers and farming! Our English Mastiff Leo has been getting his humongous paws dirty with us every step of the way!
My story began with a permanent move to my family farm in the Catskills. I had bounced around from place to place in a short amount of time looking for a career and life change and found myself spending more and more time at our family property. As luck would have it, I had a pretty cute neighbor who started popping in from time to time to check on me as I attempted DIY projects throughout the farm. (truth be told he was fixing everything I was breaking and consistently rescuing my stuck mower out of mud pits at least once a week). We had known of each other for a while, but the timing had never been right...until eventually it was! Fast forward a few years later, our love for each other has grown as well as our passion for flowers, our farm and both our families neighboring properties.
It started with field crops (corn, soybeans, pumpkins) and later blossomed in to sunflower and wildflower meadows. I fell in love with flowers (secretly Will and Leo did as well) and I started selling small bouquets from a roadside table. We expanded our flowers plots and now grow dozens of flower varieties and supply beautiful flowers for our local community.
Our Home.
The farm isn’t just a place we grow and sell flowers though. It’s a place my mother and father had a family vision for and purchased over 200 acres in the early 80’s. It’s a place that took years in the making where they scraped together extra pennies when they saw an advertisement for land in the newspaper and jumped on the opportunity with what little they had. It’s a place they hand built together a rustic cabin nestled amongst the mountainous backdrop on Roses Brook Road in South Kortright, NY. A place they spent all their free time with four platinum blonde kids teaching them to embrace the natural beauty of these mountains. A place where I spent my early years learning to ride horses and wading through streams catching salamanders with my family. It’s a place that we all cherish and still enjoy to this day. And gratefully…. it’s now a place that Willem and I together call HOME.
Throughout the years…
Over the years my mothers’ horses grazed throughout the landscape. Her and her sister would tear throughout the field on horseback, often with no saddle or reins in sight, galloping off in to the distance, only to return when darkness was falling. My father, being the workhorse that he is, transformed the landscape. He dug ponds, planted trees, built a family house, bridges across streams, fences and a stable for the horses. His vision for the property expanded over the years and he built a beautiful two story barn made from reclaimed timber to protect the horses throughout the harsh upstate winters. As life would have it, their business on Long Island and children took precedent over their lives but they always found a way to spend their free time working their land in the Catskills.

Our Future
So where are we headed? Well, for starters I am a dreamer. I want the entire 200 acres of our farm planted in flowers as far as the eye can see! Unfortunately, that’s not a realistic expectation though. Most of the land is wooded, some of the land is hayed by a local farmer, there are streams and springs and ponds scattered throughout, a very young apple orchard, and a large portion of the fertile fields is used for crops planted for sustainable wildlife management. For now, I’ve carved out a section of the field where I plant rows filled with beautiful flowers that I have come to know and love, plots of different sunflower varieties, a small plot for our veggies, a small plot for pumpkins, and my favorite place… a wildflower meadow. We love sharing our flowers with the local community and this magical place we cherish dearly.
